Cooking Master Boy

I remember back then watching this Japanese anime that was shown in a cable channel. It was about this simple boy who has the talent of cooking because of his "golden hand." This golden hand channels energy and power that it brings out the best flavors of a certain viand or a certain food. He then proceeded to a quest all over his country so that he could improve his cooking skills and even joined cooking competitions which pitted him against the best cooking masters of his country. It was fun to watch because these cooking tournaments are designed like a martial arts tournament. The conversation would run something like what you hear in an old Asian kung fu movie. You know those films that bred Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan back in the 70s and 80s? You do not know how they sound like? Well, let me give you a sample: "You do not mess with me boy. I know the secret Buddha stirring spoon technique!" or "You want to test my cooking skills? You will regret ever knowing the Carrot clan!" or "I am the feared pork dimsum master of the dreaded hog region!" Try this one: "Feel the wrath of my dragon scaled skillet!"

The lines are horrible and cheesy, right? But nobody expects to get some intellectual discourses with watching cartoons. You cannot find issues concerning global warming and global hunger and worldwide recession while watching it. Cooking Master Boy is an anime that is all fun with a lot of heart. The good thing about this, is that you will get some basic lessons about loyalty, friendship, and courage. From the title, we can gleam that the boy was made a cooking master. It is heart warming to see that hard work and determination is rewarded after all and that good always triumphs over evil.

Now that I have babbled on and on about Cooking Master Boy, I began to wonder why my train of thought jumped to my childhood anime anyway. Let me just back track a little. I feel like I reallyss getting old. I remember cooking master boy because I was thinking about cooking. I was thinking about cooking because this morning I was playing cooking games! Ah, yes, cooking games. Now I am a total incompetent in the kitchen. My family knows I am there because the place would look like Chernobyl. Ironically, I love to cook but cooking doesn't agree with me, so I have to find a way of doing that without burning the house down and that is where cooking games come in. Cooking games simulate some basic cooking method in one website. I learned to bake blueberry muffins and some cakes using these games. A virtual kitchen heaven is this site. I am glad to have discovered cooking games for I have saved a lot of furniture back home from future untold catastrophes that my cooking experiments will lead me.

Cooking Fish The Easy Way

Americans tend to eat twice as many fish dinners at restaurants as they do at home largely because they are unsure how to properly prepare fish. Here are some easy and common sense tips about cooking fish at home.

Fish should be purchased either frozen or very fresh at the market. Since fish is delicate, fresh fish should not be refrigerated for more than one or two days. Frozen fish should be well thawed before it is cooked and both frozen and fresh fish should be well dried before cooking.

One of the most popular methods of cooking fish is to pan fry it in a shallow amount of oil. White fish should be coated before it is pan fried in order to protect the delicate flesh from the heat. A coating of seasoned white or wholemeal flour or a mixture of flour, beaten egg and fine bread crumbs is sufficient.

Olive oil or a combination of oil and butter will give the fish a tasty crispness. The oil should be shallow, about 1/8 inch, and should be preheated in a cast iron or heavy skillet over medium heat to about 365 degrees F. This is hot enough to make a small cube of bread sizzle loudly and brown up in about 45 seconds. Place a few pieces of coated fish into the skillet without crowding and cook them for about 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Thicker pieces should cook for 5 to 6 minutes on the first side and for about 4 minutes on the other side.

Avoid overcooking the fish because overcooking will cause it to taste dry and tough. White fish will change from a translucent color to an opaque color when cooked and will begin to flake when it is done. Fish that flakes too easily is an indication that it may be dry and overcooked.

Grilling is a great way to cook sturdier fish such as grouper, salmon, tuna, and swordfish. Just be sure that the grill is preheated and is cleaned and lightly oiled so that the fish will not stick to it. The sturdier fish may be cooked with a light coating or without any coating. More delicate fillets should be coated and grilled in a grill basket or grilled on a heavy duty sheet of foil.

One of the easiest ways to cook fish is to bake it. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F and place the seasoned, coated fish onto a lightly oiled baking sheet or shallow baking pan. Bake the fish for about 10 minutes per inch of thickness. As with pan frying, the white fish is properly cooked when its color turns opaque and it begi00003295ns to flake when a fork is inserted into the center.

Oven broiling is another great way to produce delicious cooked fish. Season and coat the fish well ahead of time. Preheat the broiler and place the fish 5 to 6 inches beneath the broiler. Watch the fish carefully to avoid overcooking. Thicker fillets should be turned halfway through cooking.

The microwave oven can be used to cook a delicious fish dish. Use your favorite recipe for coating and seasoning and try to make the fillets even thickness for best results. Thinner sections of the fish can be folded under each other to help make the fillet an even thickness. Rotate the fish halfway through the cooking time if the microwave oven does not have a turntable. Let the fish stand for a few minutes to finish cooking. Use the color and flake tests to check if fully cooked.

Lastly, fish can be steamed or poached with excellent results. To steam the fish, place it in a metal or bamboo steamer. Place the steamer into a saucepan that has water or stock that has been seasoned with lemon, ginger, or any seasonings from your favorite recipe. It is important that the liquid reaches a simmering temperature but not a boiling temperature. Similarly, the fish can be poached by lowering it into a liquid that is simmering but not boiling. A boiling liquid will cook the fish too quickly and cause the outside of the fish to overcook. The poaching liquid can contain any aromatic herb or vegetable that you enjoy. Cooking times are only a few minutes and depend on the thickness of the fish. As always, test the fish if fully cooked with the color and flake tests.

These easy and common sense tips should give confidence to the preparation of fish dinners at home. Fish is a delicious source of protein and should be included regularly in a healthy diet.

Selecting a Good Hiking Trail

The type and location of the trail you select can play a significant role in determining the enjoyment you get from a hiking experience. Before heading out on your next hike, evaluate the trail based on the following criteria.

Define Your Objectives: Select a trail according to your planned activities. Hikers hoping to photograph wildlife are going to want a quiet, secluded trail that sees little foot-traffic. Short trails over easy terrain are better suited to hiking with children. A trail with miles of ups and downs will be great for physical conditioning.

Consider Your Level of Experience: If you're going to hike alone, take an honest assessment of your experience and physical abilities. Are you in good shape or has your physical activity been limited? Can you navigate with a compass and map? If you have a cell phone, take it along. Realize though, that it may not work on the trail and if something goes wrong, you need to know what to do. Unless you have a lot of experience, don't hike alone.

If you're hiking with a group, select trails based on those with the least amount of ability and experience. If you want to reach the summit of mount Buena Vista, make sure you hike with companions that can reach the top. Novices should start on shorter trails over easy terrain until they are comfortable with navigation and carrying a backpack.

Account for Distance & Time: It's easy to underestimate the time you need to complete a hike. This can turn a planned 3-hour hike into a 6-hour ordeal. A good rule of thumb is to plan on 5-10 miles per day over moderate terrain if carrying a full load. On flat terrain, you'll probably cover a mile in about 30 minutes. For every 1,000 feet you gain in elevation add another hour. For every 1,000 feet you lose in elevation add 30 minutes. Factor in 5 minutes of rest for every hour hiked and remember that multi-day trips should include a full rest day for every 4-6 days on the trail.

Location Matters: The trail you select should have ample links to other trails or alternative routes should you find a section closed or in case of a medical emergency. If you're going on a multi-day trip, make sure the trail comes within close proximity to water, campsites and places to re-provision if necessary. Don't hike trails (however well-marked) that don't have a map.

Factor in Weather: Seasons affect the hours of available daylight and use patterns on a trail. Check local weather forecasts. Certain patterns (sudden storms, for example) are more typical of certain seasons. Don't forget to take into account variables that might affect the weather like changes in altitude along the trail.

Rules & Regulations: Regulations or restrictions on group size limits, campfires, hunting or breeding seasons may be in affect in areas around certain trails. Check with park or trail officials regarding any restrictions or necessary permits that may apply to the trail you're considering.

720p Vs 1080i HDTV

Is 720p vs 1080i worth being concerned about? Yes and no. If you're a consumer looking for a new TV, you can happily ignore the 720p vs 1080i debate because every TV which is described as HDTV or HDTV Ready is required to support both formats.

NOTE: You should be aware though that lots of TVs which support 1080i have fewer than 1080 lines and so scale the 1080 signal down. That's not a huge issue as even scaled down 1080i is far ahead of a regular NTSC signal. It is worth bearing in mind that more expensive HDTVs tend to have better scalers than cheaper ones, and this may be an issue.

However, for broadcasters it's a live issue. Should they broadcast 1080 lines of interlaced video or 720 lines of progressive scan? They could just broadcast two signals, one in each format, but that would use up a huge chunk of bandwidth and be hugely expensive for very little gain.

To answer the question, it's important to understand the difference between 720p vs 1080i. A 720p signal is made up of 720 horizontal lines. Each frame is displayed in its entirety on-screen for 1/30th of a second. This is know as progressive scan (hence the 'p')The quality is like watching 30 photographic images a second on TV. A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the 'i'), ie every other lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.

Most of the time interlacing works fine, but for fast moving images, such as sports like baseball and hockey it can cause problems which manifest themselves as a 'stepping' effect on-screen. Progressive scan signals don't have this problem and so are better suited to sports.

ESPN puts it like this: 'Progressive scan technology produces better images for the fast moving orienta000006A3tion of sports television. Simply put, with 104 mph fastballs in baseball and 120 mph shots on goal in hockey, the line-by-line basis of progressive scan technology better captures the inherent fast action of sports. For ESPN, progressive scan technology makes perfect sense.'

Bottom line? For us, as consumers 720p vs 1080i is not a debate worth worrying about, so you can relax and focus on all the other criteria on your list when you buy your next HDTV.

The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen Might Actually Make You Smarter

If I had had the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen when I was in college, I think I would have been a happier student. You see, I'm an auditory learner. I absorb information by hearing things more than seeing them. Shapes and words remind me of sounds, and that's how I commit things to memory. I make flash cards, but I have to read them out loud as I study. In fact, my most effective method of memorizing facts is to record an audio tape where I say the question, leave a blank space of silence for me to answer when I listen to it, and then say the answer. I listen to the tape over and over, jumping in with the answers, until all the facts are firmly in my brain.

The one problem this causes with class notes and lectures is that, when I try to translate the words and sounds of a lecture, which my brain processes so easily, into written down words on a paper - while at the same time trying to pay attention to what's being said and not miss anything - I inevitably end up missing something. Not only that, but when it comes time to study for the test, more often than not, my experience of looking back at the notes is to gaze at the words on the paper and have an overwhelming sense of wondering why I wrote them. It's difficult to connect them back to the words that the professor was speaking at the time I wrote them down.

Well, with the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen, all of that could have been a thing of the past.

The Smartpen is a new invention that is causing quite a buzz around the web. It is a pen which roughly the size of a Magic Marker, and contained within it is either a one gigabyte or two gigabyte computer system (depending on which model you've decided to purchase).

It comes with proprietary paper, which you can either buy in spiral bound notebooks or print at home for free, which contains a command line on the bottom of each sheet. In those commands, you will find drawings that tell the pen to start recording, stop recording, playback faster, playback slower, jump ahead, or jump back.

When the pen starts recording is when the real genius of the concept begins. It not only records everything that it writes on the paper, it records all of the audio that is occurring in the room simultaneously as you are writing. The computer system inside the pen is able to sync the two together, so when you playback, you can tap any part of your notes and hear exactly what was said at that moment when you wrote them.

The incredibly useful and innovative features don't stop there, however. When you get back to your home computer, be it a desktop or a laptop, you can plug the pen into its personalized docking station and do a data dump onto your hard drive. It transfers your pages of written notes and the synced up audio into files on your computer. You can archive those files, or you can share them online. Best of all, they are keyword searchable.

The sharing feature would be particularly useful if people were in study groups. Or, to take it outside of a college setting and imagine a business application, if a company were to send a group of three employees to a conference, they could all attend different breakout sessions during the small group portions, and then post their notes, complete with audio, on the company server as an archived resource for all employees to benefit from.

Ultimately, in fact, I think that the Smartpen has many practical applications beyond taking notes in college - I feel that, just like an actual college student, it's real future is in the business sector.

Where to Buy a Kindle Instantly - Product Reviews For the Technically Challenged

Looking to buy a Kindle for yourself, friends, family or loved ones? The Kindle is truly a high tech gadget even if you are technically challenged. The product 's features, ease of use and overall design make this a "Gotta Have " for 2008 and beyond.

Don't let the size fool you! The Kindle is 7.5" x 5.3" x 0.7" and weighs a mere 10.3 ounces. The compact design allows ease of storage in a purse, hand bag, brief case or back pack. This unit goes where any paperback book travels without the bulkiness. It can store over 200 ebooks straight from the factory and with a small investment of a digital media card (2 MB) this number could double.

The Kindle is packed with the latest technology of a laptop; however, one third its' size. It operates, searches and downloads wireless over a 3G network (same network used for cell phones). Thus eliminating the cumbersome USB cords and frantic searches to find a WIFI hot spot. The real beauty is that there are no monthly contracts or costs involved for the wireless features. You can surf, search, shop, read and download items in basically any location that has cell phone service! You can search WIKIs (basically like an encyclopedia internet site), read blogs, use the built in dictionary, view Microsoft documents, download books, magazines, newspapers and audio books all while on the go. There are currently over 190,000 available downloads as of the date of this article. You can sample the ebook for free prior to purchase. What a bonus!

The well planned design of the Kindle has numerous benefits. The high resolution screen called "electronic paper" amazingly resembles viewing an actual newspaper or paper paged book. The text size can be easily adjusted for tired eyes and there is virtually no screen glare to battle with. The Kindle preforms amazingly well in direct sun light while you catch rays by the pool. The Kindle can be operated in one hand and the QWERTY keyboard allows for fast typing for both right and left handed users. The well thought out ergonomic buttons and thumb scrolling abilities make page viewing fast and easy. The battery can be fully charged in two hours and should provide four to six hours of continual use.

Here are a few tips to extend the battery life:

1. Turn the device off when not in use instead of just keeping it in sleep mode

2. Only turn the wireless feature on when actively downloading, searching or shopping on line. This will greatly enhance the battery life

I would recommend any user to purchase and extra battery when you buy a Kindle. They are very inexpensive and well worth it!

In summary, the Kindle is a high tech gadget that truly anyone can use. If you are intimidated by technology, you can put your mind at ease when you buy Kindle.

I hope this information was helpful and informative. Additional information can be found on where to buy Kindle.

Flat Screens

Flat screens TVs have an advantage over other televisions in that they have resolutions which are better than the others. The design is also an edge over the others. Thanks to the technology utilizing liquid crystal display, an LCD monitor can generate 16.7 million colors. This means that even the tiniest shade of color can be detected. LCD TVs occupy lesser space and they are very easy to transport as well.

The LCD TV monitors can also function as a computer. You can also install audio visual and attach speakers and woofers to complete your home theater experience. Considering this, why would you not want to buy a flat screen TV?

The liquid crystal display monitors blocks unwanted colors from the white spectrum. They have a large number of pixels which bend and revolve at suitable angles to be able to produce an image. These pixels are illumined by an LCD projector which allows the designs of these LCD TV to be compact. It is also for this reason that even though at an obtuse angle, these LCD monitors produce high quality images.

The screens of this flat screen TV have no glares which is very relaxing to the eyes even you view it at a close distance. Light that falls on these monitor have very little or no effect at all. You can even place it at a very bright room and its quality will be the same as when placed in a dark room.

Generally, sizes of LCD monitors are at 19", 20", 21", and 23" or more. Smaller ones are available in 14 and 17 inches. But regardless of the sizes of the monitors, LCD television monitors deliver quality images. Some complaints regarding LCD televisions include having high burn rates, cannot run high density games, and having ghosting effects. Burn rates mean that the picture remains on the pixel for a quite extended period of time. But anyway, improvements in these regard are being made to make this monitors as close to perfect as possible.

Buttons of these LCD TV monitors are small in order to make the LCD televisions achieve a sleek design. But sometimes this becomes an issue whenever the buttons are very small that they become unreadable.

There is a new LCD television that is being developed. In this new model, the viewer will be able to watch different programs on the same television by simply changing the angle of viewing.

Short Hairstyles For Black Men

Nothing looks better than a black man with a nice, short hairstyle. Luckily, it is very trendy to wear your hair short and you have many different options. Additionally, short hair allows for more convenience and ease of care. Depending on what you choose as a short hairstyle for black men, your new look could make all the difference in how you appear in both your professional and social life.

If you love the classic look of dreadlocks but you want to look clean and sharp, you can have short dreadlocks! You no longer need to have long dreadlocks in order for them to be stylish. Short dreadlocks allow the face to stay clear while looking neat and classy.

The afro is a statement all its own, but you don't have to have the biggest afro in the area to have a stylish look. A short afro shows that any man is attractive yet at the same time tasteful. If the short afro is still a bit too much maintenance for you, consider getting your hair cut down as much as possible without going completely bald. You not only have the neatest hairstyle, but you also have the easiest hair to care for! Going that short may not be comfortable for some, so find a compromise and get a very simple, yet classic hair cut.

One of the most overlooked short hairstyles for black men is going absolutely bald. Shaving your head is cutting your hair so therefore, it is a haircut! The only restriction to going completely bald is to make sure you have a good-shaped head. If you have an oddly shaped head, the absence of hair will only draw attention to it and your shaved hairstyle will become irrelevant.

Finally, men are very lucky to have some true artists available at barbershops and hair salons. These people can take cornrows to an entirely new level. Depending on what you want from your short hairstyle for black men, a creative cornrow might just be the way to go!
